Sasuke 30 Spoilerific Review - Part 6

Sasuke spoilerific review ;) Warning.. incoming blog of Sasuke 30.. if you don’t want to know.. you have been warned ( ^ . ^ ) (Just remember.. there is NO USA Broadcast of this. NBC has renegotiated out of their contract to show Sasuke on USA soil. Yes.. you read that right.. Now with the death of G4 official and NBC not giving a damn about Sasuke Japan, we will never see Sasuke Rising on US television (or any overseas country for that matter unless everyone buys the original 4 hour broadcast from TBS). For a preview of this event, please see SASUKE 30 NAVI an hour preview of Sasuke Rising with a review of the Sasuke ASEAN Open Cup and fluff pieces of all the major players in the upcoming Sasuke. There were even a couple of runs that were cut from the official broadcast! I'm taking my time on the blogs. I'm still getting cluster headaches during the day so I have to pace myself when I do these blogs.

(Massive thanks to TBS for posting the names of all 100 competitors!  Thanks to Ube for his help on the names in English!!)

After taking a break and actually enjoying the weekend we're back!  Stage 2 now!

Cross Slider クロススライダー

You start on that cross part at the top then slide down a track and land on the pads floating over water.

Swap Salmon Ladder スワップサーモンラダー

GhettoUnstable Bridge アンステーブルブリッジ

Spider Walk * スパイダーウォーク

The asterisk was there because it's modified to be the called the Spider Drop スパイダードロップ

I still hate this "obstacle" ⑤ Backstream バックストリーム
The return of ⑥ Wall Lifting ウォールリフティング

Wall weights: 30 kg (66 lbs), 40 kg (88 lbs) and 50 kg (110 lbs)
Of note is that after the outcry from Sasuke 29 they raised the timer to 110 seconds.  (Sasuke 28 was 135 seconds and Sasuke 29 was only 90 seconds)

Shingo telling them where he failed the last time (since they weren't around to laugh at Shingo before)

LOL wtf are they all looking at completely different directions for?

Obligatory pre-Stage interviews:
Sasuke All-Star Toshihiro Takeda 竹田敏浩

Sasuke All-Star Shingo Yamamoto 山本進悟

Sasuke All-Star Makoto Nagano 長野誠

New Generation Star Ryo Matachi 又地諒 and 2-Time Grand Champion Yuuji Urushihara 漆原裕治

And of course for those who read my blog you know them as Fellow UNCLI members (Cliffer #2) and (Cliffer #3).  These long-time friends both almost drowned the last time they were here and they trained hard under water to get past the Backstream.

From Team America アメリカ, Quadruple Gold medalist from the Sasuke ASEAN Open Cup Drew Dreschel ドリュー・ドレッシェル

New Generation Star Kazuma Asa 朝一眞

And clutching his #3000 saddlecloth..

Double Silver Medalist from Sasuke ASEAN Open Cup Yusuke Morimoto 森本 裕介

Hiroshige Yamamoto 山本浩茂 and fellow competitor Sasuke All-star (Mr. Sasuke) Katsumi Yamada 山田勝己

He works at SEGA (this is him filling a toy crane machine - so blame him when you lose coins!)

They repeated some of the footage from the hangers-on Black Tigers that was on Navi.

Reminder that they are going to have 26 of the 27 clears running. Noritomo Morisawa 森澤教有 had a Doctor Stop so he did not compete at all in the 2nd Stage.

First to go is the lone Black Tiger Hiroshige Yamamoto 山本浩茂

Will the lone survivor of the Yamada Gundam survive?

Will this group grow in number of hangers on by the next Sasuke?

Oh!  New Studio Ghibli movie

And we are back!   Hiroshige Yamamoto 山本浩茂

Clear on the Cross Slider

Clear on the first jump of the Swap Salmon Ladder

Next jump

Next jump

And this is considered a fail.  Unlike before where you were allowed to muscle back up to the higher bar you are automatically .. Because the bottom rung isn't taken out (they had tech issues when they removed the bottom section as you progress higher) then you have this stupid nonsense. The rule has been in place for 3 years now but I still don't like it.

Yep just like that he's out.

And the light groans as the rule is being used.

Shingo and Kawaguchi react. Notice that Shingo doesn't even move.. LOL

Again, I wish they either remove the bar from the bottom when they get higher or remove the entire obstacle altogether. Having it there and you get a technical failure is incredibly frustrating (and boring) to watch.

Hiroshige Yamamoto 山本浩茂 - Death by Technical failure on Swap Salmon Ladder

And this is the last you see of Yamada. Don't let the door hit you on your way out.

I love how Hioki is already teaching his daughter that PDA is perfectly acceptable!

LOL I see Jin getting ready in the background..
Hioki's wife Mayumi 真弓 and their daughter Miyuna菜 and their baby son Ryusei 琉青

Masashi Hioki 日置 将士
電気店長 Electronics Store Manager

TBS pulling out the Suckitude Chart™ though conveniently omitting he passed the First Stage the last time! LOL  For those who remembered he was one of the few guys that actually survived the Backstream in Sasuke 29 only to time out because they inexplicably cut 45 seconds from the timer between tournaments and he just ran out of time at the first wall.

HE'S ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 their baby son Ryusei 琉青

Hioki's wife Mayumi 真弓

Time to stretch!

Masashi Hioki 日置 将士

Clear on Cross Slider

First jump

Next jump

Next Jump

And clears the Swap Salmon Ladder

And the poor excuse for an obstacle is only one half of the Unstable bridge...

First part of the Spider Drop is the same as the Spider Walk from the past.

Overhead view of where the change starts

They put some padding or whatever it is and they have to get underneath it to continue (more on that later)

Clear on the Spider Drop and now passing the conveyor section (not motorized so this is not the return of that obstacle from the past) that is only used as a way to climb up to the level of the water tank.

I still hate this "obstacle".  Swimming is a sport.. not an obstacle.

Survives and goes down another conveyor (not motorized)

First wall

Second wall

Raising the third wall

Having trouble so he's doing what everyone else has done in the past, which is shove his body underneath it. (which is perfectly legal)

Dives for the red button as the klaxon blares.

A physically spent Hioki just collapses at the end of the stage.

Wife is bouncing up and down so much I can't get a good screenshot!

Rare citing!  Nagano in shorts!  Take a pic!

Ehem.. everyone celebrating our first Second Stage clear!

Yuuji in tears again as is buddy clears the Second Stage for the very first time.

Hioki is still collapsed on the floor trying to get some air.

Wife is still crying.

Dramatic photo of Hioki collapsed on the ground.. shouldn't.. medics be arriving by now?

Hioki's wife is interviewed instead since hubby is out of commission.

Wait.. no one is talking to me?

Fine.. lemme crawl out of here..

Improper use of wide-angle lens..  We don't need to see up his schnozz.

Masashi Hioki 日置 将士 - SECOND STAGE CLEAR!

Hioki goes into this long speech about how much he loves his wife because of the unwavering support she has given him. I'm not going to keep stealing the great translations from SMF. I knew a couple words here and there but I'll leave it at that!

I love him already. He actually hugs his wife and lets his daughter kiss him in public!

2 down and 1 clear so far!

For those who remember, he is known by his nickname Jin (or forum member Shuhuqua) who has been really kind to me doing real time translations in 2 interviews - Morimoto and Tada. I'm happy that even after 3 years he not only finally gets on Sasuke, but he clears it on his first try!

Kung Cheen-Howng 洪 恭芹 - English Teacher 英語教師
"Jin" is his nickname

Ooooh crap.. that's swinging wildly..

And that drop shown in the commercials.. was his.

Everyone completely stunned. Lee looks like he's going to cry.  Drew is already jumping up and screams, Ryo and Morimoto's faces are priceless.

Everyone craps a collective brick.

Mike Bernardo can't even bear to see and just double facepalms.

Asa's jaw just drops

Wow we got a reaction from Shingo!  Wakky also double facepalms.

Seems once you place your hands, TBS just lets go of the Cross Slider.

He did a critical mistake where he wanted to reset because he wasn't happy with his initial hand placement. But, the obstacle was let go and he jumped on and hung on to dear life.

In all honesty, I couldn't believe he hung on as long as he did given his center of gravity was off and the obstacle bucked around like a bull sideways and back and forth.

Kung Cheen-Howng 洪 恭芹 - Death by Cross Slider

Poor Jin complaining that they should have fast forwarded this run instead of his First Stage clear. LOL  He was shown more than even other stars so I'm happy for him! He passed the First Stage on  his very first Sasuke!  Very few can say that!  Especially in recent history.

I see technicolor pants!

Tomohiro Kawaguchi 川口朋広 - Cement Truck Driver

Father Sugio 杉男 is here to lend public support of his son!

His son  making sure he is properly secured.. My God he looks like a giant doesn't he? LOL

Clear on Cross Slider

Clear on the Swap Salmon Ladder (Cutting frames on that since this really is boring to watch)

And onto the ghetto bridge..

Doesn't have the same effect but I'm happy he cleared it given he failed the original Unstable Bridge.

Onto the Spider Drop

And clear on the Spider Drop (camera is on the same wall they climb up)

Getting ready for the water tank that is resting on .. another water tank.. so.. do we just mention this is a glass bottom tank?

Swimming along the outside of the pool since the hose is only in one spot.

Using his reach to his advantage as he gets out of the Backstream.

Sliding down hard..

About to touch the wall

Looks up and yells a complaint..

And then proceeds to clear the first wall

and second wall

And the 3rd!

And he clears!

Family happy but very subdued. LOL

Meanwhile Asa is jacked!

LOL at everyone looking at completely different monitors.

I'm so happy he cleared!  This is his first time!

Tomohiro Kawaguchi 川口朋広 - SECOND STAGE CLEAR!

Father Sugio 杉男 is doing fist pumps!

Oh we are going into another commercial break.  We see someone fall and Wakky complain.

Another drowning will occur..

All-Stars share a laugh at someone's expense..

And Drew bites it!

heh... same campaign slogan overseas

Prepare to Fast Forward!
Yuuya Kadono 上遠野裕也 - Death by Backstream

Taiga Hoshikawa 星川大我 hears the klaxon on the last wall!

Taiga Hoshikawa 星川大我 - Death by dramatic Time up on Wall Lifting

Hiromasa Katakabe 片伯部浩正 - Death by Backstream

Toshiharu Takami 高見俊治 - Death by Swap Salmon Ladder (not technical he literally falls off)

Daisuke Morikami 守上大輔 - Death by Time up on Wall Lifting

Hey they are actually showing him and not a damn photo!

Shinya Kishimoto 岸本真弥

 Okada standing to Shinya's Daughters.
Eldest daughter Kanon 華音 and second daughter Rinon 莉音 (Thank you Shinya!)

They Fast forwarded his run..

First they didn't show his first ever First Stage clear (he was one on the Clear Chart photo).. then they Fast Forward his 2nd Stage Clear.. who's corn flakes did he piss on?

Shinya Kishimoto 岸本真弥 -  SECOND STAGE CLEAR

That's one seriously gnarly sun burn..

And I need to find out what their names are.

Eldest daughter Kanon 華音 and second daughter Rinon 莉音 (Thank you Shinya!)

I'm convinced that the Salmon Ladder was either broken or rigged this time around. It knocked out way too many proven competitors for it to be a coincidence.

Normally I'd agree with you however the rule has been there before (and has been used before) but it's the first time we know more about it (meaning took out people we knew better). All of those in the past were just digested so if you blinked you missed it.

I'm not disputing the rules (though I admittedly don't agree with them). Only pointing out that the Ladder taking out the number of Stage 2 competitors is unusual. Sure, there are always a handful of people who fall or end up on uneven rungs, but this many? Especially when many of them have cleared this obstacle in the past? Something is not right here. Whether it was deliberate or merely a legit mechanical problem with the rungs is another debate entirely, but the point is that the Ladder itself was a bit more sensitive than in previous competitions.

Agreed I don't like the rules either. But my original point stands that this has been going on for a while just not as visible. I know at least for me the tech fail is what bothers me. They already tried to remove the first jump rung (the one that is static and won't move) because when they did move the whole thing glitched. It would have been preferable if the ones that are out of bounds were taken back in... or let the old rule stand where you could muscle up if you had the brass balls to do so. :D Teheheheheh Other competitions that had the SSL either didn't have a lot of competitors on it, or those that failed (in the tech way) were digested to the point where people didn't remember them. This tourney is different where people we knew were affected. I still don't like it but it is not rigged. Just a bad obstacle rule and boring as hell to watch.

The second stage could use a whole revamp. It's getting pretty boring at this point.

@Arsenette To be honest, I don't really like the rule either, and you guys, trust me, you guys are gonna see why in part 7. I know exactly where it's at, and at the end of the last part, i'll post where I got it from.

OK nvm you're gonna see it in part 8! LOL
