2010 Sportsman No. 1 Monster Box Special
栄光のスポーツマン№1決定戦スペシャル
PART FOUR
(PART ONE) (PART TWO) (PART THREE)For a preview of what Monster Box is please refer to my blog on the
2010 Sportsman No. 1 Navi (a half hour show). For brevity's sake I will not post what I already did there. I also want to make clear that the entire show will not be posted here. I am only concentrating on Monster Box and any specials tied to previous Sportsman #1 events. Thanks everyone for being patient while I do this.. was sick with a stupid cold.. grrr...
Moving right along I'm not going to blog about the parts that went after that. Feel free to read Ube's blog about it. There was a baseball event, a golf thingie, the news.. and then this. A small glimpse of what I thought this show was going to be about.. Sportsman!! Anyway they start with Power Force which just happens to be one of my favorite Sportsman #1 events!!

They pitted Olympian Carl Lewis against Olympian Hammer throw gold medalist
Koji Murofushi 室伏 広治 in the event called Power Force

Carl trying to inch forward as Murofushi is just not having it..

Finally Carl makes a mistake and starts to stand up giving Koji all he needed to inch forward and win the battle

Another struggle as they both fall to the ground trying to outpull each other!

Kawaguchi does the mistake of trying to get up again...

And they are both exhausted!

Next up is the gallon throw! This is where someone takes a barrel, throws it over their heads and hopes to clear a barrier behind them.

Distance of the wall is 6 meters (Approx. 19.6 feet)

Oh I recognize him.. he's a sumo wrestler! Asashōryū Akinori
朝青龍 明徳 (or as the kanji has it it's just his last name they are using - Asashoryu
朝青龍)

He cleared the 6 meter mark

Next famous 7 meter gallon throw (approx. 22.9 feet)

And he clears 7 meters

yeah.. you don't forget a face like that!

Onwards to .. holy crap.. 8 meters and 25 centimeters! (approx. 27 feet)

Wow he has the world record on this event??

Olympian Hammer throw gold medalist
Koji Murofushi 室伏 広治 clears 8 meters and 25 centimeters!

Oh hey it's Bob again.
Bob Sapp ボブ・サップ vs. a sumo guy I recognize! Kotoōshū Katsunori 琴欧洲 勝紀 or just
Kotooshu 琴欧洲 for short as the kanji has it

Bob wins the tug of war

So nice to see sportsmanship these days :)

Asashoryu
朝青龍 again
Seems they have to move the big a$$ ball to one side. They go round and round with it for a while.. oh Ube says this is called "Spin-off"

Asashoryu looses his balance and falls

Okay back to Monster box! 2 centimeters and 36 centimeters (approx. 7.7 feet)

He looks reaaaally familiar but I can't place his name..
World Record holder in the Pole Vault
Sergey Bubka セルゲイ・ブブカ (Thanks Jelena :D )

someone else I don't know..

Seems he was surprised to see Gon beat 16 boxes!

Gon seemed surprised too! LOL

Back to the present.. oh it seems these are the names of the people to attempt 16 boxes.. there are quite a lot.

I'm sure they will be harping about him being the last All-Star standing

He's .. oh nvm you should know by now how much I can't stand this guy..

Takeda looks like a fish out of water.. LOL
Kazuyuki Toda 戸田和幸 - Soccer player that's also been in Sasuke a couple times

He easily clears 16!

Dai's pretty happy about that!

He looks nervous! LOL (as we go to commercials..)

Taking a LOT of deeeeep breaths..

Fidgeting as his name is called...

Deep breath again and he starts to run..

Big Jump...

And an easy clear!

More than enough space!

And he's PUMPED!

LOL he's celebrating big time!

And just beaming with pride!

More fist pumps! LOL

Nagano voicing his support..

and a big yell just as he jumps..

And proud support

LOL now he's reacting to Takeda's reaction..

Shingo joining in the fun!

All-Stars are relieved!

The rest of the big boys are proud as well

meanwhile Takeda is stil celebrating.. LOL

He's even audibly celebrating!

Poor thing he's so relieved to make it!

Bowing to the other competitors there

And again yelling his relief!

Replay of his jump

He got just high enough

And of course the reaction after he knew he made it

Passing popcorn ya'll :p

Now he's teasing that Takeda's reaction is as if he friggin achieved 完全制覇 -
Kanzenseiha!

Dude.. that's .. cruel.. .. giggle..

he can't stop laughing at Shingo's comment

Meanwhile unaware that his friends are teasing him..

And actually says "so this is what it must feel like to finally beat stage 3".. I feel so bad for him now.. Sasuke 24 is still on his mind..

Baseball player Takehiro Ishikawa 石川雄洋

He clears 16!

OOOOOOOOOFFFFFFFFF.. face first???

Wakky is just as surprised as I am!!

Blanik somersaults off the monster box after the failure

Didn't get all of the height he needed

Ouch.. face first.. yikes..

Shunsuke Itou 伊藤俊亮 apparently fails 16 as well

Btw now we are at 17 boxes - 2 meters 46 centimeters (approx. 8 feet)

The guy here http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_J31xTee0Pts/S200cVyF0UI/AAAAAAAAV0k/b6gSKPhcceI/s1600-h/vlcsnap-98961.jpg is Sergei Bubka, a retired Ukrainian pole vaulter, who still holds the current world record of 6.14 meters. But I'm guessing the footage is about 10 years old...
Oh at least 10 years. Sometimes they had dates on them but didn't say.. hmm hang on.. Born in 1963.. and it shows he was 37.. yep .. about 9-10 years ago. I knew he looked familiar! Thanks Jelena :D
LOL! No athletics fan will not recognize Sergei Bubka. He is the GOD of Pole Vault. :)
But then again i can't recognize the Olympic gymnasts as i don't follow Gymnastics. :D
Hey I watched a lot of the Olys when I was growing up and I have seen him.. just didn't know his name. :D I don't follow the sport excessively (especially lately) but we used to put on the Olympics when it was on and they always showed Track and field :)
