Rambling Rican Interview - Neil Weare

Rambling Rican interview with Attorney Neil Weare from Equally American (https://www.equalrightsnow.org/) which focuses on advocacy for the Insular cases (i.e. US Territories/Colonies) discussing the latest cases before the United States Supreme Court.

This is an informal discussion about where we are now in terms of legal challenges to the 124+ year old Insular Laws. A century after the Spanish American War and how colonies like the 5 inhabited unincorporated territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Island Territories) still persist without the right to become states and more importantly be equal citizens under the law of the United States.

Neil is part of the Legal team that represented John Fitisemanu who is from American Samoa and recently was denied by the Supreme Court to challenge the fact that he is not an American Citizen just because he was born in American Samoa. We discuss that case and others like it as we try to understand what cases may in the future finally overturn the Insular Cases.

He lost, Puerto Rico is still a colony and what the heck are the Insular Cases?

A decision on a Supreme Court Case I previously referenced (United States vs. Vaello Madero) has been rendered. He lost. Obviously this is my own perspective but to say that it's still raw is an understatement. A century after the Spanish American War and how colonies like the 5 inhabited unincorporated territories (Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, US Virgin Islands and the Northern Mariana Island Territories) still persist without the right to become states and more importantly be equal citizens of the United States and all of it's laws still baffles and angers me.

This particular video I concentrate on the SCOTUS case regarding the lawsuit from the federal government against a poor disabled Puerto Rican man whose only crime stemmed from a decision made 125 years ago. I talk about some of the written decisions (both concurrences and the lone dissent).

First Generation American as a Stateside Puerto Rican

An overview from my perspective growing up in the United States to Puerto Rican parents on the issue of American Colonialism. I go into detail regarding a Supreme Court of the United States case (US vs. Vaello Madero) and how it affected me personally enough to make this video. Thoughts on Drew Drechsel

The original video was recorded and edited on August 19, 2020. Due to a copyright claim from TBS (which for some reason was manually reviewed and BLOCKED in all countries..) I reedited out the video and put it back up on August 20, 2020.

I wanted to take the time to try to hash out my thoughts on the situation with Drew Drechsel from both American Ninja Warrior and Sasuke. For those who are new to my channel I spent 9 years following Sasuke and the birth of what became present day American Ninja Warrior. Drew was a huge part of that and in the midst of covering the show I dealt with him a lot as he was HUGE in the community.

These are my thoughts unedited and unscripted. I apologize if I'm a bit disjointed in the messaging. My hope is to support those who are suffering during this time and hopefully offer encouragement to those who are having a difficult time processing the information.
