Rambling Rican Vlog - Viewer Questions, Ninja Warrior Returns, Sasuke 32 - Direct Link

Yesterday I posted a new vlog!  Given the past blog I wasn't sure if I was going to get a chance to put that up before the weekend or not. I'm happy to say I did manage to get it done

Show notes!

Answered viewer questions/comments, discussed Ninja Warrior returning to the USA!, Nagano video translated, etc.

I tried something different with music for this episode. All is YouTube royalty free music.

First of all, thank you for this blog and all you do. It's an amazing, amazing resource for Sasuke newbies.

Can't even begin to explain why I feel compelled to give you my whole Sasuke-viewing history; I just do (is there a character limit on comments?). I've known of Sasuke's existence for maybe 8-10 years; my mom was a casual fan of the show who would watch it back in the day when she happened to catch it on JET. A few years ago, I was scrolling through TV listings and read a description of American Ninja Warrior. It became a family activity for my mom, sisters and I and it quickly became must-see TV for us. Last month, I happened to see Sasuke trending worldwide on Twitter and decided to see what was going on. I found the competition on YouTube and we had fun watching it as we recognized the American competitors from ANW and the Japanese competitiors that competed on USA vs Japan and USA vs the World.

When ANW went on Olympic hiatus a few weeks after that, I thought I'd look for past Sasuke competitions and found find quite a few. Despite not being able to understand a word, we quickly became complete, utter, full-blown Sasuke addicts. My sister found your blog and she'd read bits from it as we watched the competitions. In a matter of days, we went from calling the competitors we recognized by our own nicknames ("Blondie" for Kanno, "Ivy League Hair" for Tomo, "99" for Yuuji (because he was #99 in the first two competitions we watched), "Electrician" for Hioki, "Cryer" for Asa, "Boat Captain" for Nagano, etc.) to a handwritten list to an Excel spreadsheet of competitiors, to being able to call them out by name, to a two-tiered Excel spreadsheet (first tier for serious competitors, second tier for entertainers/gimmick guys like Octopus Man, the ABC-Z guy, and that one dude that always hurts himself crushing beer cans on his head and whatnot before he starts running).

I've spent the past few days going through your archive and YouTube channel (Shingo speaking Dutch and Nagano's reaction at seeing his CD were awesome), and am now making my way through the Final Stage podcasts. You have no idea how many questions you've answered for us (like how many kids Nagano has and which are from which wife, lol). It's hilarious when we read something in your blog that's also some random observation we had (how young Ryo's mom looks, how Yuuji always looks confused). I sent my mom the link to your interview with Yusuke last night and she read until she went to bed and then continued on this morning with the Tomo interview straight through breakfast and for hours after. She has a headache now from staring at her screen too long. My poor dad has not been able to get a word in edgewise for days when we're all together because all the rest of us talk about is our new Sasuke discoveries from your blog and the guys' social media. He keeps calling us "obsessed" lol.

What I love more than anything is the camaraderie between the competitors, and it was at its best during Nagano's last run (which I've watched way too many times) with all the guys in tears as he ran and the ceremony afterwards. The worst has been finding out all the crap that went on with the USA vs Japan and USA vs the World competitions. It makes us LIVID...and despite being huge ANW fans just three weeks ago, none of us are interested in watching it anymore (not to mention after seeing the comments on your blog, my mom is no longer a fan of Joe Moravsky ha).

Anyway, again, thank you for all you do and I apologize for my extreme rambling. Your site is seriously the best!
